Welcome to the Italian Whiteboard Lessons.
In this lesson you learn how to conjugate are verbs in the present.
Let's get started!
The verbs that end in are
follow the same conjugation pattern in the present tense.
Let's take the verb parlare,
meaning to speak, as an example.
Simply replace the are ending with the appropriate ending,
based on the subject.
Let's see the different forms of the verb parlare in the present.
Io parlo, I speak
Tu parli, you speak
Lui parla, he speaks
Lei parla, she speaks
Noi parliamo, we speak
Voi parlate, you speak
Loro parlano, they speak
Let's look at the dialogue.
When I read, I want you to pay attention to the verb parlare.
Find it and see how it's used in the dialogue.
Io parlo inglese, I speak English
Noi parliamo inglese, we speak English
Now let's look at some examples with other are verbs.
Remember that in Italian we usually omit the personal pronouns.
We only use them to express emphasis or opposition.
Non mangio carne, I don't eat meat
Guardi spesso la televisione?
Do you often watch television?
Michele lavora in un ristorante.
Michele works in a restaurant.
When using a name instead of a pronoun,
the verb is still conjugated according to the corresponding person.
Michele corresponds to he,
so the verb is conjugated in the third person singular.

Noi cantiamo una canzone.
We sing a song.
Voi amate il cioccolato?
You love chocolate?
I bambini ascoltano la radio.
The kids listen to the radio.
