Soccer words

Postby rreppy » March 2nd, 2009 3:01 am

Ciao! Italians are so crazy over soccer, that it would be fun to read the sports pages of Italian newspapers on the Internet to practice Italian and improve our vocabulary.
Unfortunately, every time I have tried this, there are many terms specific to soccer that do not show up in any of my Italian/English dictionaries, even though I own four of them.
Could you please consider an episode in which you go over "soccer words", like the Italian terms for goalie, center forward, halfback, wings, penalty terms, etc? Maybe a cultural spot about the major teams? It would be fun and informative, and a great help.
Grazie tutti! - Roberto (Robert Reppy, Tampa, Florida)

Dear Roberto,
That's a very good idea.

What is your favorite Italian soccer club?
We might start with that.

Ciao
