Culture Classes

Any plans to continue the culture classes? Hopefully, something beyond names?

Are there any particular subjects you'd like us to cover?

Great! I will look forward to them.

I would like to hear more about daily aspects of life. Things like typical meals, how people spend holidays, and also things about each region in Italy. You talk about some of these a bit in the lessons, but, I think a whole culture class would be good.

Also, I would like to know about typical books that are considered classics for schoolchildren to know. Starting with really easy children's books, since I am just starting. When I get better, I would like to be able to read these books, and I would like to read the easy books to my baby at bedtime.

In the meantime, can you give me some suggestions for easy books?

Those are excellent ideas.
You'd like to feel the daily Italian life, right?

Regarding books for schoolchildren, I remember reading Brothers Grimm's fables in Italian.
Very famous are also Aesop's fables, in Italian "Favole di Esopo".

If you are looking for an Italian writer, then Carlo Collodi is pretty famous.
He wrote "The Adventures of Pinocchio".

Grazie, Marco. I can't believe I didn't even think of Pinocchio! I am lucky, I found it at my library! They also had something called Easy Italian Reader. It is supposed to have short stories and/or excerpts of stories and also a section on Italian history for people learning Italian.

No luck with Favole di Esopo, even on Amazon.com. I guess I will just have to return to Italy to get it! I also read those as a kid (in English, of course) and I enjoyed them.

I'd also suggest you look for Italian comics called "Topolino".
They contain stories on Mickey Mouse (Topolino) and Donald Duck (Paperino).
They contain some rather difficult grammar for people not exposed to Italian 24/7, but they can be entertaining.
