Did you know that when playing internationally in any sport, the Italian national team is often called the "Azzurri"? Do you know why?
Azzurri means "The Blues." Italian national teams are called this way, because in 1911 the national football team chose blue jerseys to honor the royal House of Savoy, Italy's ruling dynasty at the time.
Even after Italy became a republic, the teams kept wearing blue, and the nickname stuck!
