Do you know how to make an invitation in Italian? |
Welcome to Three Step Italian Practice by ItalianPod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to make an invitation. |
Let's look at the main dialogue. |
Two people are having a conversation. |
Vuoi riposare prima? |
"Do you want to rest first?" |
Meglio di no. Andiamo prima in spiaggia. |
"I'd rather not. Let's go to the beach first." |
Vuoi riposare |
Vuoi plus an infinitive verb is a simple and informal way to ask someone if they want to do something in Italian. |
Vuoi means "do you want" and comes from the verb volere, which means "to want." It's used here in the second person singular, when you're talking to one person in a casual setting. |
The verb that follows is in its infinitive form—ending in -are, -ere, or -ire—and it stays unconjugated. So when you say something like Vuoi riposare?, you're saying "Do you want to rest?" |
Let's practice this grammar more in this lesson. |
