Dialogue

Lesson Transcript

Do you know how to talk about where someone lives or studies in Italian?
Welcome to Three Step Italian Practice by ItalianPod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to say where someone lives or studies in Italian using common verbs and prepositions.
Let's look at the main dialogue.
Two people are having a conversation.
Sì, sono una studentessa della Statale. Studio relazioni internazionali a Milano.
"Yes, I'm a student at the State University. I study international relations in Milan."
Interessante! Sto leggendo un libro sulle relazioni internazionali.
"Interesting! I'm reading a book about international relations."
In this lesson, we used two common patterns to describe study, living, and school-related activities in Italian.
When talking about where someone studies or lives, we use the present tense of studiare or vivere followed by a for cities or in for countries, as in Studio a Milano or Vivo in Italia.
When talking about going to a place, we use the verb andare in the present tense, followed by a, plus the place. The preposition a often combines with the article of the noun, giving forms like al, alla, all', alle. For example: Vado all'università "I go to university."
These patterns help describe everyday routines and locations clearly and naturally.
Now let's practice using this grammar with some sentences.
