Today we're going to continue on with counting as we cover 11-100.
GRAMMAR POINT
Let's just quickly review 0 to 10.
zero
uno
due
tre
quattro
cinque
sei
sette
otto
nove
dieci
In Italian, counting from 11-20 is also very straightforward. So, let's jump right in.
11 undici. Un-di-ci. Undici.
12 dodici. Do-di-ci. Dodici.
13 tredici. Tre-di-ci. Tredici
14 quattordici. Quat-tor-di-ci. Quattordici
15 quindici. Quin-di-ci. Quindici.
16 sedici. Se-di-ci. Sedici.
17 diciassette. Di-cia-sset-te. Diciassette.
18 diciotto. Di-ciot-to. Diciotto.
19 diciannove. Di-cia-nno-ve. Diciannove.
20 venti. Ven-ti. Venti.
Numbers from 21 to 99 are formed by combining the numbers we have already covered.
So, you have the tens from Venti, “twenty,” to Novanta, “ninety.” And you simply add the numbers you learned in the previous lesson.
20 venti. Ven-ti. Venti.
30 trenta. Tren-ta. Trenta.
40 quaranta. Qua-ran-ta. Quaranta.
50 cinquanta. Cin-quan-ta. Cinquanta.
60 sessanta. Ses-san-ta. Sessanta.
70 settanta. Set-tan-ta. Settanta.
80 ottanta. Ot-tan-ta. Ottanta.
90 novanta. No-van-ta. Novanta.
Let’s try with “forty-two.” “Forty” is Quaranta, and “two” is Due. So, if you put them together, you have Quarantadue or “forty-two.” Let’s break down this word and hear it once again: Qua-ran-ta-du-e. Quarantadue.
Let’s try now with “seventy-three.” “Seventy” is Settanta, and “three” is Tre. Put them together and finally, you have Settantatre. Let’s break down this word and hear it once again: set-tan-ta-tre. Settantatre.
And, finally, we have Cento. "One hundred," Cento. Cento. Cento. To count from Cento onwards, you just need to add after Cento the units and the tens you have just learned. Let’s try with some examples.
109 centonove. Cen-to-no-ve. Centonove.
176 centosettantasei. Cen-to-set-tan-ta-sei. Centosettantasei.
