POST CONVERSATION BANTER
Cinzia: Marco I don't think our listeners know that for Capodanno we usually wear something red.
Marco: Oh yeah! We normally wear something in red, for example both men and women can wear red underwear!
Cinzia: Yes! Do you know where this custom comes from?
Marco: No... Do you?
Cinzia: Yes, it dates back to the age of the Roman Emperor Ottaviano Augusto when they used to wear a red item, because red was the colour of power, love, health, and fertility.
Marco: Oh! So it is supposed to bring good luck.
Cinzia: Yes, it's a good omen for New Year.
Marco: So if you go to Italy for New Year's Eve, get yourself a red item!

Cinzia: Buon 2009!
Marco: Happy 2009!
Marco: To use this phrase just change the year after Buon to the following and it works like magic!

Cinzia: Auguri di Buon 2009!
Marco: Best wishes for 2009!
Cinzia: Or, Auguri di buon anno!
Marco: “Best wishes for the New Year!” If you are in a New Year's party you can say
Cinzia: Buon anno a tutti!
Marco: “Happy New Year Everyone!” And what is the best way to reply if someone says Buon anno!
Cinzia: Simple, buon anno anche a te! (informal), or Buon anno anche a Lei! (formal)
Marco: Please note that there are many more variants of the above phrases, so don't be scared if you hear something a little different, just smile, it is a day for having fun after all!
