INTRODUCTION
Cinzia: Ciao a tutti!
Marco: Marco here. Newbie Series, season 1, lesson#45 - Please Get to the Bottom of This Italian Situation!
Cinzia: Hello everyone! I'm Cinzia, and welcome back to ItalianPod101.
Marco: With us, you'll learn to speak Italian with fun and effective lessons.
Cinzia: We also provide you with cultural insights
Marco: and tips you won't find in a textbook.
Cinzia: In this lesson we shall take a look at the final of four different circumstances in which the futuro semplice is used.
Marco: This conversation takes place outside a bar.
Cinzia: And it’s between John and Laura.
Marco: The speakers are friends, therefore they will be speaking informal Italian.
Marco: Now, if you're listening on an iPod...
Cinzia: or an iTouch or iPhone...
Marco: click the center button of the iPod or tap the screen on an iTouch or iPhone, to see the notes for this lesson while you listen!
Cinzia: Read along, while you listen.
Marco: This technique will help you remember faster! Okay...
Marco: Let's listen to the conversation.

Laura: Vorrei sapere chi è quella ragazza.
John: Non ti preoccupare, ti aiuterò io!
Laura: Come farai?
John: Chiamerò Steve e gli chiederò chi è la ragazza.
Laura: Ma no! Non puoi!
John: Allora chiederò direttamente alla ragazza!
Laura: Stai scherzando?
John: Sì.
Laura: Cretino!
Marco: Let’s hear it slowly now.
Laura: Vorrei sapere chi è quella ragazza.

Laura: Come farai?
Marco: How'll you manage to do it?
John: Chiamerò Steve e gli chiederò chi è la ragazza.
Marco: I'll call Steve and I'll ask him who the girl is.
Laura: Ma no! Non puoi!
Marco: No! You can't!
John: Allora chiederò direttamente alla ragazza!
Marco: Then I'll ask the girl directly!
Laura: Stai scherzando?
Marco: Are you joking?
John: Sì.
Marco: Yes.
Laura: Cretino!
Marco: Stupid!
POST CONVERSATION BANTER
Cinzia: Ah! what did this dialog make me say.
Marco: What, what?
Cinzia: Cretino!
Marco: Yes, we have to apologize for having said a bad word, but sooner or later we shall have to see some of them.
Cinzia: In spoken Italian it will happen that you hear some of these words, but pay attention because the real meaning depends on the tone and situation.
Marco: Yes, in the dialog Laura is using a playful and rather surprised tone.
Cinzia: But if she were to use a harsher tone it would have a stronger meaning.
Marco: And this happens all the time in languages like Italian, Spanish, French and so on.
Cinzia: Yes, so please be careful when using them, if you are not sure about the tone to use just don't say the bad word!
Marco: Excellent advice!

Lesson focus

Cinzia: In the last three previous lessons we have seen the futuro semplice is used in four different circumstances. Today we are going to take a look at the fourth and last one.
Marco: The futuro semplice can be used to issue orders or strong desires. This employment may be almost always translated in English with "shall". For example
Cinzia: Ti aiuterò a trovare casa.
Marco: I shall help you to find a house.
Cinzia: Non ti preoccupare, arriverò prima di mercoledì.
Marco: Don't worry, I shall come before Wednesday.
Cinzia: Vinceremo le elezioni!
Marco: We shall win the elections!
Marco: So this usage is so easy isn't it.
Cinzia: Yes it is. It's just the English translation with “shall". It's easy even to remember.

Outro

Marco: That just about does it for today.
Marco: Okay, some of our listeners already know about the most powerful tool on ItalianPod101.com....
Cinzia: line-by-line audio.
Marco: The perfect tool for rapidly improving listening comprehension...
Cinzia: by listening to lines of the conversation again and again.
Marco: Listen until every word and syllable becomes clear. Basically, we breakdown the dialog into comprehensible, bite-size sentences.
Cinzia: You can try the line-by-line audio in the Premium Learning Center at ItalianPod101.com.
Marco: Ciao!
Cinzia: Ciao a tutti, grazie!
