POST CONVERSATION BANTER
Cinzia: So in the dialog John seems really interested in new cell phones.
Marco: He sure is. Also we Italians love to have the newest cell phone around.
Cinzia: Yes, Italy is one of the countries with the highest percentage of cell phone users.
Marco: And contrary to some countries, we have a majority of prepaid cell phone plans, right?
Cinzia: Yes, it is the easiest way.
Marco: And this way you can have more than one phone with you as the monthly costs are very low.
Cinzia: If you don't use it much.
Marco: Yes, got me there, Cinzia.
Cinzia: How many cell phones do you have.
Marco: Me? Only 2. And you?
Cinzia: I only have one, and trust me, it's enough. I can't even imagine being traceable on two mobile phones!

Lesson focus

Cinzia: The futuro semplice tense is used in four different circumstances. Today we are going to take a look at the first one.
Marco: 1st - to talk about prospective occurrences, especially those meant to take place in the distant future. Please, note that the idea of “distance” refers to the speaker perception. For example
Cinzia: I fondi del governo saranno disponibili dall’inizio del prossimo anno.
Marco: The government’s funds will be available by the beginning of the next year.
Cinzia: Il campionato italiano finirà la terza settimana di maggio.
Marco: The Italian league tournament will end in the third week of May.
Cinzia: Nel futuro i cellulari saranno molto versatili.
Marco: In the future, cell phones will be very versatile.
Cinzia: As we have seen in these examples, these actions are meant to take place in the distant future.
Marco: Very, very easy.

Outro

Marco: That just about does it for today.
Marco: Before we go, we want to tell you about a way to drastically improve your pronunciation.
Cinzia: The voice recording tool...
Marco: Yes, the voice recording tool in the premium learning center...
Cinzia: Record your voice with a click of a button,
Marco: and then play it back just as easily.
Cinzia: So you record your voice, and then listen to it.
Marco: Compare it to the native speakers...
Cinzia: And adjust your pronunciation!
Marco: This will help you improve your pronunciation fast!
Marco: Thank you all!
Cinzia: Grazie a tutti ciao!

Hi Tom and Karen,

"Basati" is the past participle. You can get it by dropping "are" from "bas-are" and adding "-ato". It conjugates like an adjective, so, since "cellulari" is masculine and plural, "basato" changes into "basati."

"Si basa" is from the reflexive form of "basare," which is "basarsi," which literally means "to found oneself", so "to be based."

I hope this helps!

ciao, we do not understand what tense basati is? It does not seem to be any of the congugations for basare we have learned to date. .

I primi cellulari basati

We wonder how to get to basati from basare.

Another question:

"La sua teoria si basa su dei punti importanti."

We don't really understand the "si" in this sentence.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Grazie mille,

Tom and Karen
