Lesson Transcript

Ciao tutti! Welcome to Italian Weekly Words! This is Ilaria, and today's theme is clothes.
1. maglione “sweater”
Vorrei fare un maglione per il mio ragazzo a Natale. “Next Christmas, I would like to knit a sweater for my boyfriend.”
2. cappotto “(winter) coat”
Cappotto, again, is a word for “winter coat”. When you hear the word cappotto, it would be something very thick and very warm.
In Italia un cappotto di buona qualità può essere molto costoso. “In Italy, a good quality coat can be very expensive.”
3. maglietta “t-shirt”
Or shirt. In Italia, it can also just mean shirt in general. Again, it’s a very ambiguous word, but let’s use it today as t-shirt.
In estate cambio tre magliette al giorno perché fa molto caldo. “In summer, I change three shirts in one day because it’s too hot.”
4. pantaloni “pants”
Preferisco indossare i pantaloni invece che le gonne. “I prefer to wear pants over skirts.”
5. a maniche corte which is “short sleeved”
a maniche corte “short sleeved”
Indosso sempre una maglietta a maniche corte sotto i miei vestiti nel caso faccia troppo caldo. “I always wear a short-sleeved shirt under my clothes, just in case it gets too hot.”
And abbiamo finito per oggi “we’re done for today”. See you next time. Bye-bye! Ciao!
