welcome to the Italian Whiteboard Lessons.
In this lesson you'll learn how to use the preposition DI as a modifier.
Let's get started!
Il suo numero di telefono, per favore.
First we have the possessive adjective IL SUO, meaning your, formal Italian.
Then we have a noun NUMERO, meaning number.
Then we have the preposition DI, meaning of.
Then we have another noun TELEFONO, meaning phone.
At the end we have these expressions
PER FAVORE, meaning please.
Il suo numero di telefono, per favore.
Literally, your number of phone, please.
But the meaning is your phone number, please.
The preposition DI here is used to modify the noun right before it.
In this sentence it shows that it's not just a generic number,
it's a phone number, in Italian.
Numero di telefono.
Now let's look at the sentence pattern.
This pattern will be the structure that all of our dialogue will follow.

When I read,
I want you to pay attention to the modifier DI.
Find it and see how it's used in the dialogue.
Informal Italian.
Il suo numero di telefono, per favore.
Your phone number, please.
Il mio numero di telefono è 098-7654-321.
My phone number is 098-7654-321.
Now let's look at some speaking examples in Formal Italian.
