To follow Rebecca's point, you cannot learn the gender of the owner directly from the sentence in the lesson notes, because the sentence contains no information regarding the owner. The translation assumes information about the gender of the owner from some other source(maybe a prior sentence) not disclosed to the reader. Correct?

Ciao Rebecca,

Thank you for posting.

In Italian the gender and number of the possessive pronoun is not related to the owner but to the owned thing.

Let's consider "my":

-"La mia casa", "my house", "mia" is singular feminine, because "casa" is singular feminine.

-"Il mio letto", "my bed", "mio" is singular masculine, because "letto" is singular masculine.

Similarly,

-"I suoi occhiali", "her glasses" (but out of contest it can also mean "his glasses"), "suoi" is plural masculine because "occhiali" is plural masculine.

I hope this helps!

Feel free to ask more questions.

A presto!

I am a bit confused. In the lesson notes, it says that 'sue' is used for feminine plural - that is hers. But in the example of 'her glasses', you use 'suoi'. Which is correct?!
