Living in italy

Postby ambrogio » May 2nd, 2008 3:20 am

If i were to move to italy and look for a job, would one be easy to find for a foreigner? I'm an American college student and i'm interested in living in italy for a while. How much does an average apartment cost? And living expenses? If anyone could help me with this i would appreciate it so much. =)

Caro Ambogio

It is VERY difficult to get a job in Italy when you get there. Your best bet is to go with a job already in your pocket, especially if you do not speak Italian well. You also need to check the legilation regarding work permit since you are coming from outside the EU.

I suggest you contact your nearest Italian consulate for information. See:

Latest review of cost of living shows Rome as the most expensive place to rent, with a 2 bedroom furnished apartment going for 1,300 euro a month, followed by Milan with 1,200 euro per month, although student accommodation will be cheaper. See also:

Current exchange is 1.00 EUR=1.54134 USD (from http://www.xe.com)

Good luck

Hi Ambrogio,

Probably, the best way to get a visa to work in Italy is contact some EFL (English as Foreign Language schools) schools in Italy. The teaching qualification is not necessary if you are a native speaker. The best way to do it would be to contact one of those schools, get an offer and contact the Italian Embassy to see what paperwork you need to do.
Living expanses vary greatly, depending on the city you’ll live in. When you get on offer let me know and I’ll give you more detailed information about living expenses.

Ciao
