Today we’re taking a tour through the remains of one of the oldest places in Italy. No, we’re not talking about the coliseum. Older than that. No, not the Roman forum. Even older. Let me stop you before you continue guessing: We’re not going to Rome. We’re going to somewhere even older than Rome. Can you guess? We’re going to visit the heartland of the Etruscan empire. Have you heard of them? Well they were running things back before the Romans ever had dreams of conquering Europe, and were still mastering how to catch fish. In this course, we’ll use all Italian blogs to explore the people, places and history of Italy. Today immerse yourself in the Italian language, and learn about Italian history, while learning Italian.

Learn Italian with ItalianPod101.com! You just got some good news: even in a slow job market, your top choice of employers in Italy offered you a job. Your roommate tells you in Italian, “Congratulations! We must celebrate your good results. Why don’t we go out to eat tonight!” You respond in Italian, “Thank you, and yes, dinner is good. But let’s try something different tonight. Are there any Asian places around here?” Your roommate says in Italian, ” Asian food when you’re in Italy? Ah, you’re kidding me , of course. We’ll feast on some delicious pasta tonight, my friend.” You respond in Italian, “But we’ve had pasta almost every night this week.” Your roommate remarks in Italian, “So? It’s delicious, and there are so many ways to prepare it…” You reply in Italian, “Haven’t you ever heard that carbohydrates are bad for you? We’re supposed to enjoy everything in moderation.” Your roommate responds in Italian, “Do you remember where you are? Italy is not the land of moderation. If you want moderation, then maybe you should go to an Asian country instead!”

Scooting around downtown Roma in your new Vespa, you accidentally slam into a police car. The Italian police officer who was sitting inside does not look happy as he walks alongside his car, surveying the huge dent in the side! He approaches your car, takes out his handcuffs, and yells in Italian for you to, “step away from your vehicle!” “I’m sorry!” you say in Italian, but the Italian officer is unfazed. “Mi dispiace! It was an accident!” The furious officer tells you in Italian that he doesn’t want to hear anything else from you and to “put your hands behind your back! NOW!” You begin to panic, picturing yourself in an Italian jail. Suddenly you remember ItalianPod101.com’s Beginner Lesson 13… “Ti prego” you say with tears in your eyes. The Italian officer’s face suddenly softens as he explains in Italian, “okay, I’ll let you off this time…but don’t do it again!” You breathe a sigh of relief. The people back home will never believe this!
