Learn Italian with ItalianPod101.com! Your friend calls you and exclaims in Italian, “Did you hear what happened to Steve?” Now, you know better than to get very excited: the gossip your Italian friends engage in often exaggerates the truth. But you decide to play along and inquire in Italian, “No, what happened to him?” Your friend tells you in Italian, “He decided to leave Italy and went to America on a whim!” You already knew this, but you feign surprise and ask in Italian, “He did? Why would he do that?” Your friend responds in Italian, “No one knows, but he may have gone to chase after his ex-girlfriend. The word on the street is that he might propose!” You doubt this to be true, but you decide to let the Italian story grow so you say in Italian, “You don’t say! You know, he really did love her…”
