So what do you think about these proverbs.
Is it really wise not to trust people?
Do you usually like to help strangers?

When I first heard “Fidarsi è bene, non fidarsi è meglio” in the podcast, I thought “how harsh !!!”… but then again I have to admit I kind of live by this rule… while at the same time being a strong believer in “l’apparenza inganna” :???:

So maybe on top of teaching us Italian, you can also have us see the error of our ways …

avatar Marco says:

I am glad to know you liked the choice of proverbs.

I think Italians regard the wisdom of proverbs as a something close to a scientific truth as they are nearly always correct in their assumptions.

Ciao!

Ciao Petiteclaire, grazie mille per il tuo attento commento.
Thank you a lot for your attentive comment.
We are always glad to TEACH something, apart from the simple lessons we are happy if WE all can learn some important life rules…
Ciao e grazie ancora!

How true! It’s too easy to form judgements based solely on appearances. “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover!” So, don’t ditch your boyfriend Cinzia just because your father doesn’t like his looks but let dad truly get to know him. http://www.italianpod101.com/wp-images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Likewise, keep an open mind but be wary of being misled as in your second proverb, shows great wisdom. I guess that’s why these old sayings stick around: they still have validity.

Oops, I guess I don’t know how to use those cute smilies properly. I meant it to be a happy face for you, not some link. Visualise an embarrassed one now.

Grazie ancora! Thank you again!
You seem very sensitive Deb,
I am probably too tender-hearted sometimes and I think there’s something good in all of us.
We have to be careful but ready to give a chance to everyone!
Thank you for your advices!
