Your global company had been preparing for weeks for a month-long conference in Italy. You were very excited to meet new people, especially in Italy. You already knew a little Italian from speaking to Italian people on the phone over the past few years, and you even started learning a little Italian in your spare time. Then, everything turned into a nightmare overnight as your boss asked that -with your prior knowledge of the Italian language-you be the one to introduce everyone in Italy. As your colleagues arrive at the Italian office, you walk right up to the Italian manager, grab his hand, and plant a huge kiss on each of his cheeks. A little stunned by the affectionate and inappropriate greeting, the Italian man is rendered speechless. After he regains his composure, he pulls you aside quietly-after you have kissed the entire staff hello-and informs you of your embarrassing mistake. Is that how you get promotions in your office?

Learning Italian with ItalianPod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Italian! This Italian Beginner lesson will prepare you to introduce other people in Italian, both formally and informally, using the Italian verb presentare and the correct Italian indirect object pronoun. You will also learn how to say “both” or “all three” and so on in Italian. Then, we will discuss when Italians feel it is appropriate to kiss in greetings! Don’t forget to stop by ItalianPod101 to pick up extra Italian learning materials…and leave us a comment while you’re there!

Ciao, credo che il file PDF sia guasto!

Marco says:

Caro Greg,
ho appena scaricato il PDF e funziona.
Forse il problema si è risolto da solo.
Ti prego di riscaricarlo.
Marco

Dear Greg,
I have just downloaded the PDF and it works.
Maybe the problem fixed itself.
Please re-download it.

Is it possible to have a soun other than the horn? I listen to these podcasts when I’m driving and the horn is a little disconcerting. Even though I expect it now, ever so often I still think someone is blowing at me.

avatar
Marco says:

Dear lisa we have instructed our sound engineers to take out or make lower the horn sound. We are sorry if it caused any discomfort. In Italy it is very common to hear it on the streets as many people use it normally.
Ciao
Marco

Jacquelline says:

hahaha that’s funny that people are asking you to remove the horn sound!

hahaha I can’t stop laughing just picturing someone driving in her/his car and listening to this podcast and suddenly the horn sounds and they think it’s a real car hahahaha

How come those posting here already have an advanced knowledge of Italian and - Greg in this case - are using the subjunctive after only 3 lessons?

Is this really for beginners?

avatar
Marco says:

Dear Peter,
the lesson is meant for beginners, but I am sure also more advanced listeners are using this level as a means for practicing what they have learnt in the past!

Buona giornata

Ciao Marco è Cinzia!

Mi chiamo Michele Forro (Michael Smith)
Sono a San Franciso, studio italiano a la Museo Ialiano Americano.
Il mio professoressa è Claudia Milani. Amo la lingua italiano.

I am really enjoying your pod casts which I discovered today. You are both
so charming and make learning fun!

I have made it to intermediate Italian but had to stop as I was falling behind
due to my difficulty with Prepositions an definite articles in the combined form.
You know, dello, dell’, degli, etc. But the good news is that I am going back to class in the summer and I am using your program to keep me fresh.

So thank you for your help. Oh and by the way I love Italy. I have been three times in the last ten years. The country and the people are wonderful. It transforms you. And each city has a distinct smell, Rome smells like food, Florence like leather and Venice like my town, San Francisco smells like the sea.

Ciao Marco il magnifico è Cinzia la donna bellisima!

Marco says:

Dear Michele,
thank you for your kind words.
Don’t worry about Prepositions an definite articles in the combined form, also we Italians hate them, but you will slowly get used to them, so have patience.

Cinzia is really bellissima, wait till we get some pictures out!

Saluti

I’m glad you’re enjoying our podcast!

And Marco… thank you for the compliment!

Ciao Cinzia è Marco!
Prego era niente. Siete dolce!

I look forward to seeing pictures of both of you! But beauty starts in the heart and I can tell by your voices and the joy you share in teaching that you
are as beautiful on the inside as well, Marcello Marcello Mastroianni and Sophia Loren! Ah! Cinzia, Sophia comes from Pozzuoli near Napoli so you have something in common.

I told my professoresa about the pod casts and my best friend who takes lessons with me. She was very excited about it and my friend is going to get the pod casts too. Molto bene, no?

Ciao è a più tardi!
Michele Ferro

PS I misspelled Ferro before. My teacher says Ferro is as close to Smith as you can get in Italian. Davvero!

avatar
Marco says:

Grazie ancora per le tue gentili parole!

And thank you for spreading the word!

Aha now I understand Ferro/Forro. Nice idea.

I would go for Fabbri if the meaning you intend is Smith as in Blacksmith, fabbro is just that. Changing it into plural gives it a touch of nobility and history in my opinion.

Ciao

Cinzia says:

Grazie Michele!
You’re flattering me!
A compare … Me and Sophia Loren! She is so beautiful! And I love Marcello Mastroianni!
Have you seen any movies with them? I simply adore Filomena Marturano, (it’s in neapolitan dialect but it’s simply great!)

Grazie ancora!
Thank you again!

Michele Fabbri says:

Ciao Cinzia!

Si! Si, amo la film di Marcello e Sophia!

I grew up on the films of Marcello and Sophia. I am sure that in
“Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” in the Naples story that they speak
the Filomena Marturano dialect. They really go to town! What a great movie.

I was lucky to be exposed to Italian films early in life. You should check
out my post over in the forums “Cinema italiano” under Food and Entertainment. There you and I and everyone else can get a real dialogo going on Italian films!

Hey Marco!

Oh I like my new name Fabbri. Indeed it does sound most regal! LOL.

Vostro amico,

Principe Michele Fabbri

Marco says:

Very happy you like the new surname!

just one correction, film is masculine so it is better to use “il film”.

Molto grazie Marco, mio fedele servitore.

Ah yes I was lazy with “Il film”. I must not type so fast!
