Learn Italian with ItalianPod101.com! It is often said that people will judge your character within the first five minutes of meeting you. You would never speak to a potential employer as you would your best friend! Imagine a very well dressed Italian man steps into a room. He is very confident, stands tall, smiles, and reaches out his hand to greet you with a firm handshake. The Italian man introduces himself as the manager of the company for which you are interviewing. Do you know how to introduce yourself and greet someone unfamiliar in the Italian language?

The way in which you greet someone may make all the difference in the world as to whether you get that job you are seeking, a date with that special someone, or even horrible service in a restaurant! Learning Italian greetings is an easy way to be polite, show respect, and begin all those wonderful Italian conversations you want to have while!

Learn Italian with ItalianPod101.com, a fun and effective way of learning! In this lesson, you will learn how to introduce yourself in Italian, and you will learn both formal and informal Italian greetings.

Piacere!!!

avatar maxiewawa says:

Wow, everyone seems to be really up to speed on their Italian!

I learnt classical music since I was 5 years old, so I know all the musical terms. That’s about it though.

I’m excited to learn Italian though. The suburb I lived back in Sydney has lots of Italians, throughout the day you can see old guys sitting around seemingly yelling to each other and gesturing.

Fine. (Finished).

avatar davidcha says:

ciao a tutti!

non faccio altro che mangiare ravioli.

congrats everyone!

avatar Hyunwoo Sun says:

A question: I don’t know anything about Italian but to me “sc” sounds like “sh” at times and “s” at other times. :-)

Which one is closer to standard?
Grazie!

Ciao a tutti

WOW! after looking at this pic and my experience I think of making the switch.

Congratulations for the launch IP101! S_R_C

avatar markystar says:

Signor Hyunwoo Sun,

in italian you have to remember these combinations:

ci, ce = english chi, che

so therefore,

sci, sce = shi, she

if you want to make those sounds hard just add H:
chi, che = ki, ke
schi, sche = ski, ske

e` facile, no?
pretty easy, right?

avatar marvin says:

hey Marky, you speak italian too?

Cinzia, Marco,
Congrats for the launch!
Im interested in learning some Italian. I had French in school. Does that give me a head start?

ciao

Nice. I’ve been waiting for this site. Every since I visited Italy on my honeymoon I’ve been really into Italian culture and cuisine. Glad to see the pod101 group start an Italian site. Hope I can balance Italian and Japanese. Looking forward to all the lessons!

avatar ladykuroda says:

Chiao Cinzia e Marco!
Piacere di conoscerLa. Mi chiamo Katie. :) (Does the La have to be capitalized?)

So far, so good, you guys! Molto bene! :)

I picked up a little Italian after studying on my own in 2006 (the Winter Games in Torino really piqued my interest), and it’s nice to see an ItalianPod that works like JapanesePod does! I also wanted to say… perhaps take a leaf out of their book too… have multiple speakers! It’s nice to hear the different people over at JPod, and it would be nice to hear others here at IPod (when you can manage), too! Otherwise…. it sounds kind of “set up” or “one sided”….. um, scripted, you know? But you guys have great pizzaz, so you’ll be wonderful hosts!

Hmmm… I suppose for myself, I’m looking for “everyday” Italian, as in vocab and phrases I’ll use every day. Eventually, I’d like to get into the grammatical nitty gritty, verb conjugations and the like. (I had began a some in my previous study.)

Oh! I just had a thought: pick Torino as one of your cities!

I’m gonna’ steal Cinzia’s line: A prestissimo!

P.S. I teach French and took some Spanish courses while in University, so Italian looks a lot like Spanish mixed with French to me! But I can usually pick out a lot of content from reading because of my French. ^_^

avatar Marco says:

Dear ladykuroda,
thank you for the comment, we really appreciate any feedback and you have given us a lot!
We are certainly going to offer more speakers, but don’t want to use up our best assets now. That is why I am the host. Luckily I am balanced by Cinzia. hehe
We shall have tons of everyday phrases available in a few months, so please keep listening!

“conoscerLa” should be with a capital L, but you can also find it without it especially in handwriting.

I am sure you will be able to pick up a lot using your French and Spanish skills, just watch out for the “false friends”.

Arrivederci

avatar Jordi says:

Amazing! I’ve always wanted to learn Italian! I speak spanish (native tongue) french and japanese (sort of) but i’ve wanted to learn this for soooo long!
Grazie Mille!

Ciao Marco and Cinzia,

My family is from Lucca and has been un the U.S. since my great grandparents came here in the early 1900’s. In the couple of generations my family stopped speaking Italian. My grandmother only remembers her father speaking it when he was upset so she doesn’t know much. I really love the lessons and have listened to them all so far and hope to pass on the language and cultural history to my children. Thank you for putting your time and energy in to helping people learn the language.

Thanks, Bob (California’s wine country)

avatar Cinzia says:

Hey Bob,
thank you very much for your comment and support!
I adore thinking about the Italians who moved to US in the early 1900’s
I am glad yu are enjoynig the lessons and I hope they will help you to remember what you already have inside yourself as a heritage!

PS
I smile if I think about about your grandmother’s father speaking in Italian when angry! I actually do kind of the same… speaking in neapolitan dialect when getting reall angry!
You know… no one can escape or forget his/her own origins!

Ciao ciao e grazie!

avatar Rebecca says:

Ciao - ha my first word except I’ve been saying that one for awhile.

I’m excited to learn Italian. I thought it would be a lot like Spanish, but I’m finding it’s a bit more difficult. Spanish was very easy to learn.

I don’t think I have any Italian in me, but I believe the customs and fashion are both very comforting and romantic. I would love to go visit one day.

Anyway, I’m hoping someone knows that best way to study. Listen over and over again? ha! Write it down? I have 3 kids and very little concentration time. I’ve hooked up with some friends who might be studying with me over Skype so hopefully we can get something going.

Ciao,
Rebecca

avatar Marco says:

Dear Rebecca,
Benvenuta!
Wellcome!

Do not get discouraged if Italian may seem a little more difficult compared to Spanish.
I am sure that sometimes you get confused by some words and usages between the two languages that if initially seem similar, in the end are very far apart.
My advice is have fun, especially with 3 kids around you!
Try playing with them by using Italian words, I am sure they will be very curious about what you are doing.

A presto
Marco
